After reading this article I agree that Taipei is the most convenient city for foreigners .As someone who lived in Kaohsiung and Taipei for an extended period of time, I agree that Taipei is the best for foreigners if you want convenience, ease of travel, and multiculturalism. The survey results strongly reflect the key amenities that make Taipei a top choice for foreign nationals.
Based on the report , the appeal of Taipei centers on its advanced urban infrastructure and diverse, welcoming environment:
Transportation Convenience (81.4%): This is the single biggest draw. Taipei boasts a world-class, highly efficient Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) system that is easy to navigate, with English signage and announcements. This, along with a comprehensive bus network and the ubiquity of shared bikes (YouBike), makes getting around the city and to surrounding areas exceptionally simple and affordable, minimizing the need for a private vehicle. I have lived in Kaohsiung and when i was there most of my foreigner friends after a few years had to buy scooters if you want to get around independently. I have chatted with many people like Americans and Germans ,Australians, and they said comparatively their public service is a lot worse than Taipei.
Cultural Diversity (45.3%): Taipei is a vibrant, multicultural metropolis. This diversity is reflected in its dining scene, international events, and social environment, making it easier for expats to find community and feel at home. Compared to when I was in Kaohsiung I have access to many varieties of events everyday and often struggle to decide which one to go to. That's just the level of diversity in Taipei as it is the most populated city in Taiwan. In Kaohsiung I stood-out when I was out in public but in Taipei locals are used to seeing foreigners everyday because there are so many international people living here.
Living amenities: Because of taipei mature infrastructure and international focus there are many living amenities right outside your doorstep so you don’t have to look far for things to do. whether you like shopping and going to boutiques and coffee, enjoy going out and enjoying nature on the weekends ,many accessible trails and near to metro stations so your transportation is not needed. Are you a night person the nightlife is also the best in taipei. when i was in kaohsiung i remember me and friends only going to 2 famous clubs in whole area
Education Resources (26.2%): The city offers a concentration of top universities and international schools, providing high-quality education options for both foreign nationals studying in Taiwan and for the children of expat families. As students who are learning Chinese , Taipei provides many of the best Chinese learning centers both public and private and there are many tutors you can choose from. Some you might know are NTU ICLP , NTNU Chinese course, TMK Chinese mandarin course etc.
Job Opportunities (67.4%): As the capital and major economic hub of Taiwan, Taipei naturally concentrates a significant number of international companies, tech firms, and diverse employment sectors, providing more work prospects for foreign professionals than other cities.
Language Services (22.1%): Taipei's mature infrastructure and international focus mean that English and other foreign language services are more prevalent and accessible in daily life, especially in public transport, hospitals, and major commercial areas. Even if your Chinese is not that good yet , and you use English in any place, even small restaurants, the locals will use their English to communicate with you . Imagine if you go to the hospital and you need a mandarin translator to help you explain what is wrong with you. In Kaohsiung I had to have a Taiwanese person with me to help me explain to the doctor . In Taipei, most places always have someone who speaks good English to help.
Beyond these top-cited reasons, Taiwan as a whole, including Taipei, is frequently praised by expats for its high quality of life, exceptional and affordable National Health Insurance (NHI) system, and its reputation as one of the safest places in the world.
